Spell casting always seems to be stereotypically shown as some spooky ritual that involves a full moon, black candles, sacrificial ceremonies, and plenty of magical potions, powders and props. This is not an entirely accurate picture. Magical dealings need not be so strict in nature. There are certain items that are needed to cast a spell, but what you use and how you use it are ultimately up to you. In fact, some say that if magic is not personalized, it is rendered useless. Spell casting is made out to be such an inflexible art, but this is a prevalent misconception. First and foremost, when casting a spell, the caster must be in the proper mindset. If you are stressed about your job, bill payments, family issues, etc. this could throw off your focus and the spell will either not work or the effectiveness of it will be diminished. Seasoned casters suggest meditation, grounding rituals, and cleansing baths before attempting a spell, so you can be rejuvenated and fresh for the task at hand. Many spell casters will perform their spells "skyclad" or naked, or in special robes they keep solely for this purpose, but you may dress in whatever you feel most comfortable in.

Tools of the Trade

Those experienced in spell casting will most likely already have an altar on which to perform the spell, but for beginners who do not have altars yet, they are very simple to construct. Altars are small tables usually made of wood, metal or ceramic. They may be as simple or elaborate as you like. They are usually covered in an altar cloth. The altar cloth is most usually white or black, but should be varied to match the kind of spell you are casting, for example: if you are casting a love spell, it should be pink or red, or for a money or prosperity spell, it should be green. Altar cloths can also be very simple or ornate. You may even wish to make your own, that way you can infuse your own personal energy into it.

Spell Casting Aids

When conducting spells, there are many items that can aid you. Firstly, you may choose to play music during your spell. It is very common, when casting a love spell, to play favorite romantic songs. However, when playing music, the volume should be kept to a minimum so as to not disrupt your focus or to make you break the circle to wrestle with the volume. Candles are also widely used in spell casting. Not only do they provide adequate mood lighting, but each candle color is attributed with certain emotions or powers, for example, a pink or red candle would be used for a love spell as those colors are attributed to feelings of romantic love. Therefore, the caster, depending on the type of spell, should be sure to pick the appropriate color of candle to enhance the potential potency of their spell. Herbs, crystals and incense are widely used in spell casting to enhance the energy or power of the spell. The scents of lavender, vanilla, honeysuckle and gardenia are used mostly for love spells. Another integral tool used in casting is the athame, which is a ritual dagger with a double-sided edge and a black handle. The athame is never used to cut anything physical and is most often used to cast the magical circle.

Other Things to Consider

There are many other tools that can be used, but are not necessary to the craft. Many altars usually include a chalice, which represents the element of water, which will usually hold water or wine for drinking after the spell casting is complete. There is also usually a wand representing Air that can be made of wood, metal, or bone. Most altars will include a pentacle or small pendant that will typically be used to cleanse other items on the altar. Cauldrons are also usually found on altars as well. They are normally placed there for a more "witchy" effect and are used infrequently. Timing should also be considered when preparing for spell casting. Each lunar phase and day of the week is associated with different deities and planets. Therefore on certain days, particular energies might be more potent. An ideal time to cast a love spell would be on a Friday as that particular day is associated with Venus.

Casting The Circle

In order to start your spell, first the circle must be cast. A circle is simply a space that is used as your realm of power in which to perform your spell. It should be in a place that is free from distraction, such as televisions, telephones and all other everyday appliances. The space should be cleansed with the sprinkling of salt water to ensure that any negative energy is banished. When your space is ready, the circle must be drawn. You may use your finger, wand, or athame, to draw a symbolic circle approximately 9 feet in diameter. Those skilled in spell casting can simply call up their circle through visualization, but the circle may physically be defined as well with stones, gems, earth, or candles. After casting the circle, it is time to invoke the elements to help you with your magical deed. The four elements to be called forth are Air (East), Fire (South), Water (West), and Earth (North). Simply stand in the direction associated with the element and politely ask for each Guardian to join you and watch over you during your spell. After the Guardians have joined you, then you may invite any other spirits and deities that you wish. At this point, you are ready to perform your spell.

Book of Spells, Book of Shadows and Grimoires

What is a book of spells? In most peoples mind it is a magician, sorcerer or witches spell book. This is somewhat true, but only in recent history, as it is a much newer concept than one would believe. This type of book only really began to become common in the twentieth century as newer types of Paganism began to emerge.

In ancient times and up until the Middle Ages practitioners of the magic arts were almost all illiterate as was the majority of the population. You cannot really make a book of spells if you are unable to write. When the world, and Europe in particular, began to learn to put pen to paper this still did not result in witches suddenly deciding to make books to hand down to their descendants.

Why? Because the magical arts were extremely secretive as they had largely been driven underground due to persecution. The Inquisition is most commonly associated with such behavior. It was not until the twentieth century that Pagan religions began to feel safe again and books of spells began to emerge. The introduction of Wicca witchcraft in the middle of the twentieth century is often attributed with beginning this practice.

Wicca does not call their book of spells by that name though. They use the term Book of Shadows and within it they write spells and other things learned throughout their lives. Traditional witches on the other hand do not all observe the same practice. Some do write down spells and other things important to them but they call their book of spells a Grimoire and its contents are secret.

Mudras & Hand Symbolism: Hand Symbolism & Beliefs Part 2

According to its votaries, the hand of the crucified Jesus is believed to possess occult virtues. When worn as an amulet it is said to be an all-round good-luck charm. Prayers are said in conjunction with its presence on one's person. One prayer associated with this particular amulet is as follows:

"I carry a likeness of your pierced hand as a fervent symbol of your infinite kindness. Thou who has known such suffering, reach out your hand with a blessing. Thy pierced hand inspires this humble prayer that I may call on Thee to grant me peace and happiness. Amen."

Generally, charms in the form of hands, and in any pose--whether made of metal, stone, or inscribed--were often carried to ward off the "Evil Eye," or the ietattura as it is called in Southern Italy, or ain al-hasad, the "Eye of Envy," by the Arabs. The ancient Sumerians referred to it as IG-HUL, "Eye Evil." The Evil Eye is an ancient belief and not without any metaphysical substantiation. From the metaphysical point of view, eyes radiates energy and the quality of this force is tainted by the will and character of its emanator. Like all forces, the power flowing from the eyes may bless or curse others. There are many examples of amulets with a single eye on the palm of the hand. It is believed that this attracts the Evil Eye in accord with the Law of Attraction and absorbs its malevolent influences.

In order to counteract the malignant rays emanating from the eyes of negative individuals, the Hamsa Hand, or the Hand of Fatima charm was invented by the Arabs to re-direct these individuals' willful attention and malefic glances. Fatima was the daughter of the Prophet Muhammed and Khadijah. She was said to be a very virtuous woman, and it is believed that the charms representing her embody all of her solid virtues and would protect and bring good fortune to its bearer. The fingers of the Hand of Fatima symbolically represent the five pillars of Islam: 1) observance of the Ramadhan fast; 2) pilgrimage to Mecca; 3) alms-giving; 4) observance of the daily prayers; 5) profession of faith. The right hand is used to symbolize the Hand of Fatima, for it is the hand of honor, in contradistinction to the left, which is the "unclean hand." In most Eastern cultures it is considered rude and inappropriate to give things with the left hand.

Like the Arabs, the ancient Egyptians used a symbol called "the Great Hand" for various protective purposes, one of which is to ward off evil magnetism. Most hand amulets appear with a single eye on the palm. There are instances of this in various cultures.

Amulets were not of value only to the living, but to the "dead" as well. In ancient Egypt, an amulet called dejebaui, or "two-fingers" were often placed among a mummy's swathings to help the deceased one to ascend and ride on the boat of Ra to the afterlife. This amulet depicted the index and middle fingers and was usually made out of black basalt, green stone, or obsidian.

During the enunciation of a pledge the right hand is often raised in the air. This originated in ancient customs where the raising of the hands were used to invoke the presence of the gods. Raising the right hand while making a pledge is therefore, tantamount to saying, "In the name of God . . ." Another version is to place the right hand on a holy book while uttering an oath. The significance is similar to the above.

In the West, many hand-signs have been made popular with its constant use throughout the centuries. For instance we have the V-sign with the index and middle finger raised while the others flexed and clasped by the thumb. This signified victory and triumph. Similar to this is the Mano Cornuto, where only the index and little finger are raised, and the rest folded onto the palms. This represents horns, the devil, and the powers of evil. In the Orient, though, this sign is said to have the power to ward off demons. Kuan Yin is often depicted with this mudra. The Hung Society of China uses it as a sign of membership and also to signify "Man," who embodies both Heaven and Earth. In Italian witchcraft, the Mano Cornuto represents the crescent moon of the goddess Diana.

Another prominent hand sign is the Mano Fica, or figa, the sign of coitus where the thumb protrudes between the first and second fingers of the closed hand. It is of ancient origin The Romans and Etruscans were well familiar with this sign having made images of it. Lika Mano Cornuto, the latter sign is a popular amulet against negative forces. Crossing the index finger with the middle finger also has a sexual significance. It symbolizes the generation of life and by association a good outcome in one's hopeful expectations, in one's enterprise possessing an ambiguous upshot. Another sexual gesture much more explicit is the repeated insertion and withdrawal of the forefinger of the right hand (the phallus) into a circle formed by the thumb and index finger of the left hand (the vulva). The pose of the left hand in the above gesture is also an "O.K." sign.

One of the old superstitions states that the sexual act brings good luck, good fortune, and prosperity. Perhaps because of its connection to fertility rites where the energy aroused and released during sexual ceremonies in open fields is believed to empower crops to grow abundantly. This belief is also one of the reasons why phallic and coital amulets were carried on one's person. Such charms were thought to bring about fortunate circumstances to the wearer. Sexual amulets made out of metal, bone, and wood were very popular in the classical worlds of Greece and the Roman Empire.

A hand sign that is mainly used by the sacerdotal priesthood of the Christian Churches, is the Mano Pantea. This is the sign of benediction posed by extending the thumb and first two fingers. The ring and little fingers are folded onto the palms. This mudra can be seen in the various paintings and murals of Jesus, the Saints, and priests. In Latin countries, the Mano Pantea is also often used as an amulet against the "Evil Eye," when thus employed it is normally covered with other protective symbols as reinforcements.

An upraised thumb represents the erect phallus and is a sign for life, success, prosperity, and acceptability. In contrast, the downward pointing thumb denotes defeat and is the veto sign of condemnation or the death sentence. The middle finger solitarily extended is one of the obscene gestures vulgarly referred to as, "up yours." It signifies the command to perform an unnatural or perverse sexual act.

The famed Buddhist temple, Borobudur in the island of Java was constructed in the form of a mandala--a symbolic diagram of the cosmos. It is built in tiers, and at every level, there are numerous statues of Buddhas sitting in silent meditation. At each point of the compass the contemplative Buddhas assume a certain mudra. Those facing North bear the Abhaya (fearlessness) mudra, while those in the East show the Bhumisparsha (earth-touching) gesture. The Dana (giving) mudra is the hand pose of the Buddhas facing South, and the Dhyana (meditation) mudra of those facing West. Other mudras in the precincts of the temple are also to be found such as the Vitarka (debate) and Dharmachakraprayartana (teaching) gestures. This careful orientation of mudra bearers to compass points is symbolic. It is related to the quaternary principles to be found in the micro- and macrocosm. Comprehensive teachings concerning these may be found in the esoteric aspects of Buddhism and esotericism in general.

Symbolic marks or imprints are often found on the palms of statues and icons of Buddhas and Avatars. These marks indicate the power, virtue, or attribute of these God-incarnates. In Hinduism, Shiva appears the most with these hand drawings. Many kinds of marks exist. Several are to be found on just the palms of Gautama (Shakyamuni) Buddha alone. These palmar designs probably originated from the special marks that do physically appear on the palms. Cheiromancy identifies several of these as the square, the grille, the island, the cross or star, etc.

Hands were revered by the Hindus for centuries. One of the Shivaic tantrik rituals of India gives the following liturgical adoration to the fingers of the hands:

"Om Sham I bow to the thumbs Namah. Om Shim I bow the index fingers Svaha. Om Shum I bow to the middle fingers Vashat. Om Shaim I bow to the ring fingers Hum. Om Shaum I bow to the little fingers Vaushat. Om Shah I bow to the front and back of hands Phat."

This chant is accompanied by specific mudras that purifies the subtle channels of the upper limbs. Not only is this ritual practiced in India but variations of it may be found in Bali as well.

In the marriage ceremonies and sexual rites of Oriental cultures such as in Tantrism, Yoginis or Shaktis often paint Yantras and other symbolical diagrams on the palms of their hands with henna or red dye. These diagrams normally have intricate floral patterns and are magical and hypnotic. They are used to attract, to mesmerize, and to empower themselves and their sexual partners.

In Islamic mysticism, specific gestures are often employed to help produce an altered state of awareness. Dervishes, for instance, pose their hands in specific mudras and hand signs while dancing and whirling around on a single spot. Some Sufi sects would trace the 99 names of God on their bodies with their right hand while engaging in zikir, or recollecting and focusing upon God through constant chanting.

In ancient times there were the Mystery Schools that taught to the selected few the laws and secrets of Nature and the Universe. History has recorded numerous of these schools and temples of esoteric knowledge among which were the mysteries of Isis, Sabazius, Cybele, Eleusis, Orpheus, Mithra, Asar-Hapi, and Odin. To state the mission and purpose of these metaphysical institutions we can do no better than to quote the eminent Freemason, Robert Macoy:

"It appears that all the perfection of civilization, and all the advancement made in philosophy, sciences, and art among the ancients are due to those institutions which, under the veil of mystery, sought to illuminate the sublimest truths of religion, morality, and virtue, and impress them on the heart of the disciples. Their chief object was to teach the doctrine of one God, the resurrection of man to the eternal life, the dignity of the human soul, and to lead the people to see the shadow of the deity, in the beauty, magnificence, and splendor of the universe."

Within some of these Mystery schools, when the candidate is first initiated and accepted as a neophyte, he or she is often given an effigy of a human hand filled with symbolic images to contemplate. This hand is referred to as the Hand of the Philosopher, or the Hand of the Mysteries. When these symbols are understood, they provide the neophyte the keys to facilitate the transformation of their lower nature into divinity--from man to god. Regeneration, transmutation, and empowerment are the consequence of the application of the laws and principles that these ancient symbols represent. Among the many secrets that they portray, they teach how one may commune with one's Holy Guardian Angel, or one's Higher Self. The practitioner of the secrets of the Mysteries undergo a rebirth as a result of the growing influence and expression of the Higher Self in everyday consciousness.

The Philosopher's Hand may be regarded as an alchemical manual taking the conscientious student step by step through the alchemical process. In Freemasonry, the Hand of the Mysteries is known as the hand of the Master Mason. In some Masonic groups, this is the title for the highest of the three degrees to be found in the hoary and august fraternity. In this article we have included three examples of these symbolical hands. The first illustration shown is a bronze hand to be found in the British Museum. This specimen in the Mano Pantea gesture, is covered with several important symbols among which are : a ram's head, serpent, frog, vase, crocodile, turtle, cornucopia, scales, woman with child, table with loaves of bread, and a cane. It is supposed to be Egyptian in origin.

The second hand is a painting redrawn by J. Augustus Knapp from an 18th century water color, and is taken from Manly Hall's "Secret Teachings of All Ages"; it was executed with the alchemical process in mind. In this illustration there is a figure of a fish which symbolizes mercury--the principle of the Spirit within the microcosm. This aquatic creature is surrounded by the element of fire that represents the psychological aspect of man, or the human soul. The rest of the fingers individually refer to the various steps of the spiritual path of transmutation of the base nature of man into the resplendent gold of divinity. Kaballistically, the hand shows the mastership of the crowned thumb (the Will) over the four worlds represented by the fingers. These four worlds are referred to as Atziluth, Briah, Yetzirah, and Assiah, or the World of Archetypes, the World of Creation, the World of Formation, and the World of Manifestation. Atop of the fingertips in Knapp's illustration are symbols representing the various components of the microcosm: the lantern, the Concrete Mind; the Sun, the Abstract Mind; the Star, Buddhi; the Crown, Atma. The little finger holds aloft a philosophical key, which reveals the secrets of the Mysteries. It also symbolizes the etheric body, which is considered by Western Initiates as the key to occult development. The wings surrounding the hand is a sign for transcendentalism--the things of the Spirit as opposed to matter. The eyes, on the other hand, indicate the divine aspect of omniscience unfolded in the Master Mason after having discovered and applied the "Lost Word."

Hindu versions of the Hand of the Mysteries are diagrams known as Hastakara Yantra. Like their Western counterpart, these hands have various symbolic images depicted on them. Among other things they illustrate the relationship between man and the cosmic forces.

Like Hindu yoga, in Feng Shui, or Chinese geomancy, there are 5 elements: Water, Wood, Earth, Fire, and Metal. In Chinese palmistry the little finger is associated with air, the ring finger with fire, the middle finger with earth, the forefinger with water, and the thumb with chi or metal as mentioned before. This system differs from the Hindu yogic mudra tradition. First of all, in yoga philosophy the fifth element is akasha or space, which although correspond to chi, does not relate to metal at all. According to mudra teachings, Angutha or the thumb corresponds to fire, Tarjani or the forefinger to air, Madhyam or the middle finger to akasha, Anamika or the ring finger to earth and Kanishthika, or the little finger to water. In this work on mudras, we will stress more on the Hindu yogic assignment of the elements to the fingers and thumb. The application of elemental mudras in conjunction with the elemental tattvic tides is a great tool in elemental magick.

Hand Signs in Religious Art

Hand signs are an essential part of life. They are used to convey silently but powerfully the intention and thoughts of their user. Humanity has for ages utilized sign languages. It originated at a period of Man's evolution when he was incapable of communicating his abstract and concrete thoughts with words and phrases lingually. He was solely dependent upon gesticulations as a media for expressing his feelings and passions. This primitive form of communication is still being used by modern man in certain situations and expediency. Not surprisingly, the intelligent classes of anthropoids also make use of hand-sign movements such as the beating of the chest in expressing anger or authority. The fictitious Tarzan could not resist aping this gesture from his Darwinian guardians.

Certain specific hand signs are to be found all over the world. Many cultures preceding and succeeding the Christian era share common gestures that express particular concepts. It has been suggested that these gestures all have comparable basic ideas or significance because of their appearances in similar contexts. This is known through their repeated portrayal in the many paintings, sculptures, and drawings of the past available for our scrutiny and study. Mediaeval Christian art of saints, prophets, and the Holy Trinity, and the gods and devas of Egypt, India and the South American Indians are often depicted with similar hand positions.

Contemporarily, we find school children perpetuating certain traditional signs that have their origin in religion and pagan practices. For instance, crossing the fingers as a sort of prayer so that they may be free from chastisement when interrogated of their wrong behavior--this may be a corrupted form of the ecclesiastical use of the Sign of Benediction.

There are many professions that make use of signs only known to their members or affiliates. For instance, merchants, masons, tramps, gamblers, prostitutes--all have signs known only to themselves with which they signal one another.

Because of the profuse use of signs and gestures by the Italians in their everyday life, anthropologists believe that these descendents of Romulus and Remus are not able to carry out a satisfactory conversation if they were prevented the use of gesticulation.

Occultists believe that most gestures or hand signs that are found in religion and in society have a common origin in the prevalent Mystery Schools of the past where they were used in a ceremonial setting. Modern Freemasonry as one of the many descendents of these Occult Temples of Wisdom and Knowledge still perpetuates this custom of hand signs in their initiatory rites.

Like the Freemasons, secret societies in the Orient also have ceremonies where esoteric signs are employed. One of the secret associations of China, the Hung Society, have certain signs and gestures with which communication is carried-out among the affiliated members--not only in the ceremonies but in everyday life as well. The aforementioned society, likewise, have plentiful mudras or signs representing the principles of their philosophy. In its doctrines, the five elements of Taoist esotericism are signified by poses that are also to be found elsewhere around the globe.

The mystical Dervishes, established by the Sufi Rumi, apply hand signs for occult purposes. They invoke the Divine Presence by utilizing these signs that corresponds with the 99 names of God in their dance rituals, as already alluded to previously.

Artists of all ages have secret codes and teachings with which they unveil in their artwork. The Miracles of a Monarch

Many people no longer believe in miracles, but I have seen many. It is strange to me that people are living their lives in the dark. Even more strange are the people who have adopted evil practices, so prevalent in our pop art world. I believe that our love of freedom, in the United States, has been warped into a sense of freedom to do whatever you want, and that this has resulted in the corruption of the government, of big business and of familial relations.

I come from a great ancestry. I am an Austro-Hungarian, descended from some of the greatest Monarchs and Saints of the Holy Roman Empire. Monarchs have many sides, in their blood-lines. I am also descended from some of the greatest British Wizards and Anglican Catholic Saints. Perhaps my most interesting side, are the little known island rulers of this world, the Bonapartes, primarily known for their conquests of the Roman Empire. I spent eight days in Haiti, in 1990, after a homemade salve of cocoa butter and a gallon of henna ink turned me into a native. That was before sunless henna tanning sprays. This is only one of the crazes I have inspired. I am still considered the missing Queen of Haiti, by many underground native accounts. I almost had them convinced, as I fed many of them, starving, their own food...throngs of them. But the thin I line I traced between the Voodoo Gods and the new Saints I sought to improvise nearly got me burned at the stake by a huge mob. I had to run. In old maps, the lost continent of Atlantis became Hispaniola, comprised of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Every magical herb know to the great civilization of Europe was secretly planted there, for posterity. Our evil tendencies, in the form of human trafficking, ruined the territory, and Atlantis was recorded as lost.

Throughout my life I have proven to be a catalyst. Some people say I am crazy. But I know I have prayed for enough courage to change this world for the better and keep myself alive doing it. You see, many people don't want the world to change or improve, especially if they don't get the credit. So I am telling you that all of the evil, jealous, underhanded tactics one can imagine, I have had exposure to. I am not afraid. I am not afraid of your problems, your enemies, the criminals, the cops, the crooked politicians, or Satan himself. I am here to help. Without fulfilling this role, I am not fulfilling my destiny. All I care about is fulfilling my destiny. You see, I have had every worldly advantage ripped away from me. Not from the Socialists, and Communists that allegedly felled the monarchs, but from petty, selfish, sick people that learned every rotten trick in the book and got away with it, due to their prestige...which they insisted on and that's how they got it. Again, I am not afraid of your enemies, or of the enemies of mankind, many of whom I know.

As a child, I established a strange reputation. I thought too much. Everyone knew that. But it was what I said that unnerved people. At first I did not realize I was making predictions. I would say something like, "When did so and so die?" and they were not dead. My friends would insist I was crazy, and I would say, "Didn't so and so die of pneumonia?" They began to note my strange renderings. Pretty soon they were beginning to ask questions, like "When so and so died of pneumonia, who was president?" I would respond something just as strange. The name of man I did not know, a future president. Sad, that a man nobody knows usually becomes our president. But anyway, by and by, my friends and relatives became used to my crazy predictions, but they kept it from me. White faced, with pink spots, they hated me. It has been a lifelong struggle to keep my grace, or ESP, under control. My parents knew how to lie and manipulate me so that the TV wouldn't blip off forever, so that they had to buy a new one, or so that a rain storm would not wash over us for 20 days or more. But, eventually, after reading the bible front to back for the third time and running around New York City, from guru, to guru, I found out!

In 2007, two strange meetings brought about "metaphysical disturbances," which is what the police call it. I had gone, unknowingly to set up a series of meetings with two powerful and deadly Queens in my family, in Florida, one of whom actually tried to hit me with a lead bar after casually saying "Turn around." The other was too old, but she could plot! On the drive home, I ran into a flash storm. Flash storms are not so uncommon in Florida, but rainbows are less common. During the drive in the storm, just before the foot of the Gandy Bridge, which joins St. Petersburg and Tampa, a rainbow descended upon my car and stayed with my car for over a half mile. I could see the colors of the rainbow illuminating my body, the interior of the car, the exterior of the car and the road and buildings I passed. This was not the first time a metaphysical light attached itself to me.

But it was the first rainbow that attached itself to me. As a child, I learned a Native American rain dance, so coming to Florida was a delight. Rain dances were so abundant in feeling. A little sunlight, through the mist, and well-ah! Rainbows galore, if I wanted them. I used to give them as gifts, but no one believed me. The indians (tribal name withheld for safety purposes) called me Midnight Sun, because of the light that attached itself to me. That light is called a "Halo." I can hear the witches screeching now, "What kind of person has a liiiight??!!" I am divine royalty. I have not sold myself out to witchcraft, like so many of them.

Later in the year, in 2007, perhaps in June, I was working at a hotel in Tampa, in the restaurant. The restaurant had few customers, and during a moment of repose, I said a prayer. I was crying. The hotel was full of evil people, who worked there. One was a now famous comedian who was asking about my life insurance benefits, and when they became effective. Then he stalked me with his fake evil smiling face, even at six AM. I said "Father, I do not believe I can remain here any longer and survive. I am sickened by these evil people and must find some relief. Please, please help me. I can't take any more." I said this prayer into a window, the other side of which was decorated by an outdoor pool and fountain, over which the sun would set, in the evenings. It was my favorite spot to take a moment and reflect. The next time I came to work, the workers were weirded out, grey faced. They said nothing. Then I heard a thump against the window.

My supervisor screamed, "That poor thing, that poor thing! I don't know what's wrong. Its the strangest thing..." I went to look at the window and saw just a flash of red, then heard the thump. My supervisor as silent, kind of slumped over. I looked again, and there in the bushes was a red bird, a Cardinal. It flew full faced, head first into the window again, like it was trying to kill itself. This happened all night long. The customers were concerned, even scared, but the employees knew I had prayed in that spot, and they wouldn't speak to me. The phenomenon continued for several days. I prayed for an answer. The day I came to work, happily announcing that I had heard that the Pope was about to make a visit to the United States, the bird disappeared. This was the third self sacrificing bird I knew of. Animals act strangely around me, but they usually nest, around me. To me this is a good sign. I think it means I will win, and death and destruction will cease.

I have run from every place I have ever been, with the sickest rotten people in the world chasing me. In the name of freedom yet...the freedom to do whatever you want. I am nearly penniless. The royal accounts I set up with my grandparents, embezzled by banks, who hung up on us and destroyed our records. All of my inventions, games, perfumes, clothing designs, medical instruments and discoveries, GONE! I am being turned into a non-person, someone whose credentials are wiped out, and eventually dies without anyone noticing.

It is so strange that this tactic even exists. I know a woman, actually three or four women, and several men, who are so disgustingly crooked and pompous and low that they go to extremes like this to prove they are "better." They are stealing from me, too. I have resorted to silence. No more jokes, no more cute movie themes, no more one-liner product advertising, and no more goaded fortune telling. From now on people have to pay for it.

Binaural Music - Do You Know What It Is?

Binaural music- perhaps you've heard of it lately. If you have, you may be wondering: what exactly is binaural music and how can I use it to my benefit?

Binaural beats are a unique technology that can help put our minds into nearly any desired mental state-of-consciousness that we want. In actuality, the term "binaural music" is kind of a misnomer because the actual music itself is not binaural in nature. Binaural music mixes appropriate music with binaural technology in order to create the desired effect on our brains.

In general, our brains operate at frequencies in the 1-30 Hz range with sleep and unconscious mind states corresponding to the lower end of the frequency range. Awake and alert states-of-consciousness correspond to the higher frequencies. Using a process called entrainment, we present the brain with signals in the frequency range corresponding to the mind state we want to create.

So, if we wish to feel relaxed, we would present signals in the 5-8 Hz to our brain until it begins to follow the frequency with its brain waves. And this is no problem if we present these frequencies to the eyes in the form of flashing lights or LEDs. The eyes are able to see 5-8 Hz signals with no problem.

But, the normal hearing range for humans is about 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. So if a 5 Hz signal is presented to us, our ears are not capable of hearing it.

That's were binaural beats come in. Binaural beats refers to the technique whereby a different frequency is presented to each ear with headphones. So, if a 400 Hz signal is presented to one ear and a 405 Hz signal is presented to the other ear, our brain "takes the difference" of the two signals and internally produces a 5 Hz signal.

This technique works because we use two signals that are both in the audible range - e.g. 400 Hz and 405 Hz. Our ears are capable of hearing both signals. Then, our brain does the subtraction and generates the 5 Hz difference frequency (called a beat frequency) internal to our head. So the ears never are required to attempt to hear 5 Hz.

People have got some crazy notions around binaural music.

Read some of the stuff about binaural music on the internet today and it sounds like some kind of magical, mystical hocus-pocus miracle mechanism. It sounds like the kind of thing you might see on a Saturday morning infomercial:

"Simply download our amazing binaural beats program, strap on a pair of headphones, and suddenly you can lose 16 pounds, meditate like a 73-year old Buddhist monk, perform athletically like an Olympian, be the proud owner of a set of brighter, whiter teeth and - of course - find true love. Call today. Operators are standing. Bye."

Well, binaural beats do work - and they're great for helping to put our minds in resourceful states of mind. But they are not "mystical-schmystical." In fact, they are anything but.

Now I'm sure you've all heard the story of physicist Christian Huygens who invented the pendulum clock. Not surprisingly, he had several such clocks operating in his studio. One day he noticed that all of the pendulums were swinging together. As an experiment, Huygens restarted all the clocks so that the pendulums were all swinging independently of each other. After a while, the pendulums adjusted their speeds until they were swinging in unison once again. He named this phenomenon of periodic or vibrating bodies synchronizing themselves to each other entrainment.

Now, some will use this example of the independent pendulum clocks to prove that everything in the universe is connected to each other or to demonstrate mental telepathy or as "proof" that all our brains are hooked together in a collective unconsciousness. They will make this whole entrainment process sound like some kind of paranormal, metaphysical, supernatural phenomenon. And, because it uses a similar entrainment process, they may also imply that binaural music is therefore also some sort of magical mystical and all-powerful universal force.

Now who am I to say these theories aren't true? But still, I find them very hard to believe. I believe in science.

Hang a pendulum clock on the wall. Then press your ear against the wall. Do you hear the clock? Of course you do. You hear the clock because the sound waves are travelling through the wall. The clock is vibrating the wall.

If you hang a second clock on the wall, they will eventually synchronize because they are both trying to vibrate the wall (and each other). The two clocks and the wall form a system. The clocks will eventually sync up because it takes less energy to move the wall together than against each other. It's simple science. Physics - not metaphysics.

The same with binaural music. We present sounds to the ears. The vibrating diaphragms in the earphones vibrate our eardrums at the same frequency (entrainment). The inner ear mechanisms create electrical impulses at those same frequencies. Cochlear nerves carry these impulses to the brain. And our brainwaves gradually sync up to those frequencies (entrainment again).

So binaural music is not just ordinary music. It is functional music. It creates frequencies within our brain. And, through the process of entrainment, our brain waves lock onto the frequency presented to it. And when the brain waves follow, our state of mind adjusts itself. So, like the clocks on the wall; the earphones, our ears and our brain form a system. And eventually all function at the same frequency.

When a person practices deep meditation & relaxation, he or she is entering the Alpha brainwave state. Alpha is only one of the five main brainwaves we currently recognize. Though naturally there is never only one absolute brainwave speed operating at any one time, there is usually one that dominates the rest and therefore dominates our moods and actions:

How Do Brainwave Entrainment Sessions Work?

What Are Binaural Beats?

Sometimes called Binaural Music, a binaural beat works by creating a sound frequency that would not usually be audible to us. For example, it is possible to create a frequency of 10hz by playing 210hz in one ear of a headphone, and 200hz in the other ear. The brain processes the frequencies and only hears the difference between the two - in this case, 10hz.

They may not always be the most efficient way to entrain the brain because our brains 'sound mixing' capabilities reduce the depth of the resulting sound to less than a whisper, therefore not providing a strong pulse for the brain to synchronize with.

Binaural Beats use the brain to first process the information and then 'hear' the tones; they are only made possible by the use of headphones. Binaural Beats also depend on an equal operation of BOTH hemispheres (sides) of the brain, and may therefore not be effective for some.

However they can be useful as they provide a very hypnotic response, perhaps because the brain is more inwardly involved in the processing of the sound?

What Are Isochronic Tones?

The tones sometimes used in sessions are Isochronic tones and tone based pulses. They provide a very consistent, clear cut rhythm; they stop and start exceptionally fast allowing the brain to synchronize more easily and precisely. They produce an extremely strong response and can provide the most effective way to stimulate the brain.

How Do We Use Brainwave Entrainment?

These sound sessions are used in a variety of ways. Some use them to achieve a deep state of relaxation or meditation. There is evidence that certain frequencies can alleviate such conditions as ADD, Depression, Stress, Anxiety and more. Harvard Medical School professor Herbert Benson states in his book; 'The Breakout Principle' that the effects of stress can be alleviated by focusing one's mind on a repetitive sound, word, phrase or movement, which is very much how entrainment to sound works.

At the other end of the frequency scale, Beta Waves are known to be good for chronic fatigue, slow metabolism, heightened concentration and preparation for physical activity. Even grander claims are made by some that this type of sound technology can induce states of paranormal experience such as O.B.E. (Outer Body Experience), Psychic exploration and contact with realms that are normally hidden to us!

On experience, they do ignite a very strong sense of personal depth and an invitation to discover more about oneself and what may be going on just outside of normal consciousness.

The majority of 'sessions' available are generally to be used with headphones. This is not only to enable the use of Binaural Beats but to heighten the sense of isolation from outside stimulus and enable a deeper concentration. There are, however, many sessions available that can be used without the need for headphones and are useful for a less active involvement with the sound, perhaps to play in the bedroom to relieve insomnia.

There are health warnings that come with this type of sound therapy, being that the nature of the repetitive beats are not suitable for those prone to fits, seizures and epilepsy and possibly to be avoided by the pregnant woman. There is little evidence however that any harm has come to those who use this therapy, but that does not mean harm is not possible and a person should always remain aware and responsible for their own health!

Personally I feel that it would be a shame to avoid something that may improve or enrich ones life and am a great believer in self help and improvement where this is possible! In other words, Brainwave Entrainment may be worth a try rather than to suffer or to miss out on something that may bring a little more quality to ones life
