Today, it can be very difficult on the part of the owner of a day care or childcare center to know how to screen all their employees to ensure the children left in their care will be safe and secure hands. Any individual that works with children should be screened for criminal activities that may put your children at harm from alcohol and drug abuse to sexual abuse.

Many individuals apply for work in a daycare center with other intentions besides caring for children. The sad news is that sexual predators can apply and often manage to obtain jobs as the bus driver at day care centers. This allows the driver to be in close proximity to the children and can be very dangerous for any child that begins to become friendly with the driver. The same goes a driver that has an alcohol or drug problem, the lives of the children on the bus are in the hands of this person.

Today, you have the opportunity as the owner or manager of a daycare center to use online background check websites to learn the history of potential employees. One such website offering a huge database with over 400 million records is Public Records Pro. With their vast database you can rest assured that you could find accurate and up to date public records including all court records for any potential employee. You will have at your fingertips divorce records, marriage records, and criminal court records with a detailed explanation of the entire case such as charges, fines, and sentencing. The court minutes will also be attainable so you will know if the person pleads guilty to a lesser charge, so you can ensure that the employees you hire are safe workers to work around children.

How To Start Up a Doggy Day Care Business

You have dogs, you love dogs, and you are great with dogs: everyone tells you so. You would be a natural at doggy day care, the perfect stay-at-home business for a dog lover. You can absolutely envision yourself surrounded by wagging dogs of all shapes and sizes, playing happily in your fenced back yard, or lazing peacefully on the patio while you sip iced tea and maybe enjoy a little light gardening. Snap those fingers and wake up -- what's involved in getting started running a successful home-based dog care business?

First Things First
Have you ever owned your own business? Do you have any experience in being self-employed? Perhaps you worked in a family business or even had a paper route as a kid? Working for yourself has some real pros and cons and taking a sober look at your personality, lifestyle and especially your thoughts and feelings about taking risks, is an excellent place to start.

Next, assess your resources. Take a cold hard look at the community where you live: do you have sufficiently affluent clientele? Dog owners are everywhere, but not every community has the same general attitude towards dog ownership and care. As with every business, it pays to do some market research. Among the things you will want to find out:

• Are there any doggy day care businesses in your area?
• Are they full? If so, are they only full during certain seasons or all year round?
• What kind of hours do they offer?
• What do they charge?

Now crunch some numbers yourself:
• How many dogs would you need at a competitive rate in order to operate in the black?
• What about your home and yard?
• Do you have adequate fencing? Do you have a clean and efficient way to manage dog waste?
• Do you have separate rooms in your house with doors that close in case you need to separate animals?
• Are your floors that are easy to clean?
• Do you have available cash on hand in case you need to make changes to your house and/or yard to make them more dog friendly, safe or appealing to the public?

As With Everything, There are Some Downsides
Besides the expected downsides of running a business from your home, including never really being able to "go home," starting up a doggy day care in your personal ground zero may well have a few downsides or unwanted impacts upon your life.

For example:
You will be required to comply with state and local laws, statutes and regulations governing the dog day care industry before you will be allowed to open shop. Some locales are more bureaucratic than others, so just how much red tape you will have to cut through is an open question, but if you hate paperwork be forewarned: during start up you could be facing stacks of forms, including obtaining licenses and incurring fees.

Your Personality and Other Considerations
You'll be dealing with the general public a lot. Be ready for people who don't do what they say they will, don't pay on time, don't represent themselves or their dogs accurately, and so on. People can be much more difficult to deal with than dogs!

You will have to spend a certain percentage of your time performing tasks that are not dog related. Among them bookkeeping, marketing, designing business cards, keeping a web and/or social media presence or hiring additional staff will take up your time. The more things you can do yourself, the more you can keep your costs down. But if your strength is in dealing with the dogs, you may find that you dislike or resent all the tasks that take you away from the pooches.

You will need to develop a good relationship with a local veterinarian so that you have someone "on call" in the event of an emergency. You will have to be clear and strict in setting up safety rules and insisting that they are followed to prevent fights, diseases or accidents. One important rule will involve limiting the number of dogs you have in your care at any given time. Be ready for that day that you are at full capacity and a customer begs you for an emergency "just this once" bending of your rules to accommodate him or her. If you don't enjoy saying no to people at least some of the time, gird your loins - at least sometimes it will be necessary.

Despite the possible pitfalls and challenges, doggy care can't be beat for convenience and pure canine delight. A valuable service, dog owners will be grateful to you and building a loyal clientele shouldn't be too difficult. And what could be better than spending your days having the dogs come to you!

The creation of a day care business plan can be a bit more complicated that the writing of many other types of business plans.

This is because a day care business plan will have to include information on the many state, local and federal laws which govern the day care industry.

There are minimum standards and day care requirements which have been set by government regulatory agencies for child care services providers. The areas covered include health and safety, child protection, special needs, number of adult carers per child, type of care, staff qualifications, food standards, learning and play. Day care or child care providers usually have to meet these requirements before they can be licensed or registered.

If you're starting or plan to start a day care center, you should first find out what the day care requirements are for your state. Day care requirements are there to ensure that daycare programs are meeting the minimum standards for child care. Many care providers aim to voluntarily exceed the required minimum standards. To find out more information about day care requirements in your state call 1-800-598-5437. This is the number for the National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care and Early Education. They have information about individual states' Child Care Licensure regulations and requirements.

The government through its agencies monitors day care providers to ensure that the requirements are being met. They use inspectors and consultants who visit day care centers and inspect their programs and facilities for compliance with regulations to ensure that they meet the minimum day care requirements and standards. Most of the visits are unannounced. The information gathered during these visits is documented and is available for the public to see. So if your day care service gets good reports demand for places at your center may be very high.

Remember every state has their own day care requirements so if you're interested in opening a child care center the first step is to find out from your state what the requirements and regulations are. You may find it helpful to consult some of the many books available about starting a daycare business. This will give you step-by-step instructions on what to do

Start A Day Care - How To Cash In On The Booming Demand For Day Care Centers

If you have been putting off starting a day care center now is the time to think seriously about it. Day care centers are out in a very big way and some savvy stay at home moms and dads are cashing in big time. Just look at the large number of women with pre-schoolers who have taken up work away from home.

1. START A DAY CARE BUSINESS THAT'S PROFITABLE FROM THE START.

Start small and build on your successes. Whatever you do, do it well so that you can start building your reputation in the community. Parents are very choosy about who takes care of their children. If they can see that you're professional and credible and trustworthy, they will be competing for the limited places at your day care center. They'll even recommend your center to their friends, family and associates. Word gets around so you might even start to see children from nearby communities being brought to your day care center. Make your day care center stand out by offering a high quality service.

2. START A DAY CARE CENTER BY ASSESSING THE NEED FOR DAY CARE SERVICES IN YOUR COMMUNITY.

One of best ways to do this is to talk to parents with young children and find out what type of services they need. You can arrange interviews, discussion groups, mail or telephone surveys or you can collect data from churches, hospitals and child care interest groups in your local community. This will give you enough information to assess the level of demand and provide enough stats to help you decide on what type of child care to provide.

3. START A DAY CARE CENTER BY REGISTERING AND GETTING LICENSED WITH THE RELEVANT REGULATORY AGENCIES.

Many states in the US require day care centers to meet certain minimum requirements and to be registered or licensed in order to operate. In some states, day care providers must also meet state licensing regulations for health and safety. You'll need to find out from your local agency what the state regulations and requirements are. Contact details for each state are available from the National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care and Early Education (Telephone: 1-800-598-KIDS). Being licensed and registered gives your business a professional image. Some parents will not take their children to unlicensed day care centers.

4. START A DAY CARE BY GETTING YOUR BUSINESS PLAN RIGHT

Do your research, collect the information and write your business plan. The business plan is a very important document. You need to decide on how your day care business is going to operate, where you'll get start-up finance, who will run and manage the business, whether you'll hire staff and where your business will be located. You can read a step by step guide on how to start a profitable day care center from the daycare start-up guide.

Starting A Day Care Center Can Be Profitable When Following These Five Ingredients Of Success

The demand for child day care in the US is rising. This is due to many factors including but not limited to the steady increase of working single mothers, more and more married couples working during the day and parents seeing the benefits of day care on a social and educational level.

A viable opportunity exists for day care in most US markets. In 2002 two thirds of all women with preschool aged children worked outside their home. In 1975 only 39% of all women with preschool aged children worked outside their home.

It is very attractive to work from home while running a day care business but careful examination of all the details must be considered to ensure success and compliance with the law. You must treat home day care like a true business. This requires planning, preparation, vision, discipline and dedication. Many people love the idea of owning their own business only to be blown away by all the headaches and responsibilities that come with it. Once you are in business for yourself there is no boss to keep you motivated. You must remain self motivated and you must remain accountable for your actions.

Below are five essential ingredients for successfully starting a home based day care center.

1. Determine the business license requirements for your state, county and city. Some local jurisdictions require a floor plan of your house or the area of the house that will be designated as the day care facility. Be sure to read all of the requirements of the business license. When inquiring about your business license always be friendly when dealing with government employees. There can be nothing worse than getting on the bad side of these employees. This can stonewall the whole application process for months. Once you have befriended one of the state, county or city employees don't be afraid to ask them plenty of questions about the license. These people can be a wealth of information and ensure you have everything correct the first time.

2. Check on local zoning codes and local laws regarding home day care facilities. Some jurisdictions may have specific zoning requirements if you are running a business out of your home. This may not always be the case but be sure to look into it. Also check any and all local laws pertaining to home based day care facilities. Some states have limits to the amount of children you can care for out of your home.

3. Determine if you can hire employees. While you may start off as just yourself it may surprise you how fast your business grows once you build up a good reputation. Hiring employees can really help you expand your business to greater levels. Always, always, always do full background checks and a full 9 panel drug screen before hiring any employee outside your family. This can be a great selling point to your business and nothing makes your client parents feel better than hearing this level of screening is conducted on all employees.

4. When advertising your business never depend on one avenue of marketing. Be sure to implement as many marketing avenues as you can. Word of mouth is the first and possibly most effective marketing avenue. Print up cards and give them away at specific locations or events. For example see if you can give your card to workout gyms that have their own day care center. You are not competing with the day care of the gym. The day care of gyms are part of the membership. Ads in the paper can be good. Think of all the ways to get your message in front of your prospective clients.

5. Pace your growth. It will surprise you how fast this kind of business can grow. Make sure your business can maintain its high quality care as it grows. Some things to avoid are a sharp influx of registration. You may think an extra 10-15 kids wont be that bad. The managing challenge will go up ten fold. Also stay away from a sharp increase of hired employees to accommodate any increase in registration.

It should also be noted that you should have experience with children before diving into this business. Even if you love children and love the idea of running a day care you need to have experience doing this. The reason for this is two fold. First, you don't want to go through all this trouble of starting your own business and find out that you can not stand the stress of dealing with children all day long.

Secondly, experience will only help your credentials and will be attractive to many of your customers. For example if you had worked as a nanny for a few years then decided to open up your own day care this would make sense to many of your clients. This background would also make parents feel more comfortable with you.

How to Start a Day Care Guide Part 1 - What Parents Look For in a Day Care Centre

One of the most important aspects when you are going to start your own day care centre is to position yourself in the parent's shoes. This is undoubtedly a significant process where you will foresee what kind of pitfalls to avoid when starting a day care.

Busy parents will always ensure that they have thoroughly checked the day care centre before the little one is enrolled to ensure their own peace of mind and the safety of the child.

Working parents will look out for nurseries, churches, crèches and retired child minders that provide day care services for their own benefit. They will have more assurance if these day care providers are licensed businesses, even though they may operate from home or even some business establishments.

After a preliminary phone interview with the parents, it is obviously essential to meet them in person so they can make a better judgment on your abilities. In the case of day care centers, invite them to visit your place so that they will be able to view the facilities and environment. They will not have to depend on second hand information about the place that their child will be moving in.

The term day care applies to the long term, regular and, often, daily care of a child, during the parents' absence at specific times of the day. Like during the time when they're at work.

While a licensed day care centre would automatically provide quality care on a daily basis, home day care providers can sometimes be extremely irregular. This inconveniences parents and also upsets the schedule of the child, who has got used to the way his day should progress.

You should be able to adjust your schedule and arrange them in a flexible manner so that you will not lose potential clients and at the same time, not disrupt the harmony of your home.

Home day care providers would ideally be responsible, competent individuals with prior experience in the field. The child would be comfortable around them, and the sitters would be able to provide the names of at least two referees who were satisfied with their services. Be sure to provide the parents with qualified referees that they can look up.

Parents will also get feedback from other parents regarding your day care centre; hence try to maintain a steadfast reputation with any of your existing clients so to give a good impression on your business.
Usually parents will also ask the number of children assigned to one minder. The fewer children per minder, the more attention they will get. They might ask if the minders have worked at the centre for long and whether they will be the long term minder of their group.

Prospective parents always ask about the standards of discipline and the center's policies on sickness. They will inquire about staff training and check out the safety aspects of both building and playground to their satisfaction. All these things are vital to the well being of their child. If you can provide them a copy of the centers policies with regard to how the institution is run, all the better.

Even after their child has been entered in your day care, it is advisable to arrange periodical visits and parent-teacher meetings and above all to always know how their child feels about the centre. Getting them to keep in touch with other parents is also a good way to track the progress of their child and any possible problems that might arise at the day care centre.

Running your own day care center can be a very lucrative opportunity. A lot of women have become financially independent and are making a lot of money with their day care business. If you take the time, make the effort, and do the right things, you too can open a day care center and earn a great income.

But a day care, as any business, needs some investment. One of the things a day care needs are toys. You need toys in order to keep the kids occupied. Otherwise, you'll have to spend all your time and energy interacting with them which will quickly become too tiring. Besides, one of the first things a parent who will come to check out your day care center will look for are the quantity and quality of toys.

You need to take some time to buy the right toys. More importantly, you need to consider which kinds of toys not to buy.

Which kind of toys you should never get for your day care center?

Here are a few examples:

1. Flammable Toys: There should never be any fire at or around your day care center, but still, why take the risk? Flammable toys are an invitation for trouble and there is no justification in getting them.

2. Toys small enough to swallow: Small children have a tendency to place things in their mouth. Many children have choked on small objects they found around their house of day care cenetrs. Don't become part of that tragic statistic. You have to keep your day care center safe for the children. Don't buy any toys which are small enough to put into a child's mouth.

3. Toys for older kids: There's no sense in buying Sony Play Station for a 3 year old. Most toys have the age range to which they are intended written on the cover. Before buying any toys make sure that they fit the age group of the children you'll have in your day care center.

4. Hard surface toys: In order to avoid injury, buy mostly soft cover toys. Small children can get into fights and they can strike each other with whatever they're holding at that moment. A hard surface toy can be very painful. It can also cause an injury. The safety of the children in your day care is your first priority. Keep your hard surface toys to a select minimum.

Don't worry, you can get a lot of fun toys for your day care center. It doens't need to be a big investment or take too long. Just follow my tips and you'll do fine.

Day Care Accounting Software - How to Pick the Best

Games software Fun Browsing Starts With Chrome, Easy To Use & Install. Install Now! www.Google.com/chrome
MYOB Software in Malaysia Easy to use Accounting, Inventory, Payroll &Retail Software 0392844225 www.myob.net.my

Running a day care center is challenging enough without financial accounting problems. Picking the best day care accounting software is an important decision, as it will store all of the critical business accounting data and client data of your day care center.

The first step in picking the best software is to survey what is currently available.

There are many generic financial accounting solutions available, but they will not provide the day care industry-specific features that specialized day care accounting software may provide.

Start by researching in industry publications and talking with other day care owners, but also use the power of the Internet to find and research all available options.

Look at the system requirements for each of the software options you have found. If any of them will not run on your current computer system, you will eventually have to either rule them out or factor in the cost of upgrading your system. But first, you need to determine what features and benefits you really need your day care accounting software to provide.

Ease of use is an important benefit. Unless you are very computer savvy and have no other employees who will need to use it, you need your software to be extremely user-friendly and intuitive so that little or no training is necessary.

But there is often a trade-off of ease of use versus power and flexibility. You need the day care accounting software you pick to be as easy to use as possible while still being powerful and flexible enough to provide the general financial accounting capabilities you need as well as specialized features to fill the needs of a day care center.

Obviously you need your accounting software to provide financial accounting capabilities like:

- General ledger

- Balance sheets

- Profit and loss statements

- Billing

- Invoicing

- Accounts receivable

- Payroll

- Tax forms and reporting

You may also want your accounting software to provide extra features like:

- Automated billing

- Automated invoicing

- An online bill payment interface

- Instant receipts when payments are recorded

- Employee work schedules

But day care accounting software also needs to be flexible enough to deal with more complex billing. For example, your rates may vary depending on the days or hours a child is in day care, or you may have to split bills between two divorced parents.

Your software will need to maintain contact information and a comprehensive payment history for every client. You may also need to be able to provide families a detailed statement of their yearly childcare expenses for their taxes.

In addition, specialized day care accounting software may be able to provide extra features like tracking:

- Immunizations

- Attendance, with automated recording of check-in and check-out times

- Food programs

- Calendars of events

System requirements, features, and benefits are not the only consideration when picking the best day care accounting software, though.

You need to be fully aware of any possible licensing issues, software add-on or upgrade needs, and support details. These can all affect your initial or long-term cost.

You need to consider:

- How many client records can the software handle?

- Is there a limit on the number of clients per family?

- How often is the software upgraded?

- Do software upgrades cost extra?

- How long is technical support available for old versions if you do not upgrade?

- Will you need to purchase extra modules or add-ons to get the features you need?

- If you have more than one computer that will run the software, do you need additional licenses?

- Is any training necessary? If so, what will it cost to train your entire staff?

- Is there a charge for technical support?

- How do you contact technical support?

- What are the hours for technical support?

- Will the software provider do any necessary custom programming?

- What is the charge for custom programming?

- How do you get the software (disk, download, etc.)?

- Is there a free trial of the software available before you purchase it?

You should also research what others think of the day care accounting software you are considering. First, check if it is recommended, accredited, or certified by any accounting agencies or accountancy organizations. Next, go to your favorite search engine and enter the name of the software along with keywords such as:

- review

- problem

- bug

- complaint

Do not skip this, as it can save you from a potential disaster! Software always sounds great on the vendor's site, but you need to know if there are many end user complaints.

No complaints? Great, but now you need to find out whether you can get a better price on the day care accounting software you have chosen.

Go back to your favorite search engine and again enter the name of the software or software vendor along with keywords such as:

- discount

- coupon

- coupon code

- special offer

- rebate

Now repeat the search with the same keywords with the term "site:" followed by the vendor's domain name, like in this example:

To start a well-managed home child day care business, there are certain areas that you will need to follow in order to ensure a profitable and successful business.

To begin with, you need to ask yourself is this the right business for you? Do you love kids and wish to create a profitable business around them? A day care is very demanding and requires great dedication. You need to consider how many kids you will like to start off with, and whether you will need to hire additional help.

Once you have made the decision to start a home child day care business, the next stage is to form a day care business plan that lays out step-by-step all the information that you need. When working on your business plan, make sure the plan meets the requirements of your state with regard to home day care facilities. You may wish to download all the required information available online.

In addition, it is important to make a detailed list of all possible costs that might arise since most business owners underestimate costs of doing business. The child's parents expectations are high, and if you are hiring additional help, you need to make sure that staff are dedicated, understand children and have excellent work experience in the field of home daycare. Staff costs such as salaries, insurance, medical leave and substitute teachers must be planned in advance. Other costs to consider include garbage removal, monthly utility bills and food supplies.

The child's safety is a top priority when setting up a day care center. Check with the local government on fire and safety regulations when you are working on your daycare business plan. To ensure a safe home day care experience, toys and playground items must be child proof, child-friendly in design and function. A working fire alarm system is vital for any home day care business. Fire emergency equipment must be easily accessible in the event of a fire hazard at your home day care.

Before you begin your home-based day care business, it is a good idea to visit other successful home day care services and perform market research. Learn from them and see how they manage to keep their business profitable. This way, you will amass as much knowledge of your target market as you can and avoid any pitfalls associated with setting up a home day care center. Like setting up any other business, you need to be a strong-minded person who is willing to work long hours and face the challenges in a home day care business. Efficiency and tolerance are traits that will help to ensure a well-managed and profitable home day care business.

Build on your knowledge and understanding before you start a home child day care service. Do it right and the kids under your care will enjoy their stay in your home day care center.
