If you have a desire to become an officer of the law, it's important to know what is necessary to take the police exams. These tests help the precinct decide whether or not you'll be an efficient, useful person on their teams. Be ready to review your psychological, physical and written qualities for the exams.

It isn't just hope that should drive you to try for law enforcement. Lots of people apply for the role of law enforcer with the idea that they'll gain power or respect. This isn't the best mind set to have. Most law enforcement agencies frown on this thought process and are reluctant to hire because of it.

This is why the tests are in place. It helps to keep out people with these types of intentions. Law enforcement agencies aren't looking for bullies, they're looking for respectable, trustworthy persons to care for their community. Keeping others first in your mind should be the primary intention when you decide on becoming an officer of the law.

Serving your community as a public servant is what is primarily important. And, because most police work is based on common sense, you have to keep the innocent safe while distinguishing and pursuing the bad guys. You are given proper training and much education to assist you. This is because it's impossible to catch every single thing that goes on within your designated watch area.

Most people only need a high school diploma to start as a police officer. However, by having a college degree, you can take your career to new levels. This shows those the law enforcement agencies that you aspire to do more with your law career.

You can become a chief officer or lawyer. This is all made possible by starting as an police man and working your way up the corporate ladder. Even then, you may find another aspect in law enforcement, besides a lawyer, to work toward. The choice is yours, and while you decide, keeping your mind focused on helping the innocent is important.

Studying, training and having the right mind set prepares you for the police exams. But, even with all this helpful knowledge, much of what you will learn will take place on the streets. While you will be placed with an experienced officer, you'll have to make the call and stand on your own at some point. These are the real events that will challenge all that knowledge and force out the real officer within you.

To help you further prepare for your Police Officer exam, please check out our guide to Police Exams.

So there you are, you have already submitted your application to your chosen police department, now the next thing you need to do is to study for the examination. Now you will need to know what usually appears in police examinations in order to prepare yourself properly. One thing you can do is to ask where you can find the police office exam study guide. Many of the police agencies already have a test guideline in their websites, if not, ask the guys in the recruitment department where you can find one.

The exam guides will tell you what types of questions to expect and how many there are per section. It will also tell you how much time you have per section so you can budget your time properly for the test. Now nearly all police exams will have areas of evaluation, now there are usually 5 of this evaluation test and they are as follows.

Accuracy of Observation or Memory test- now this part will test your memory, you will be given a information and you will be provided ample time to study it. Once the time is finished the examiners will ask you questions regarding what you have just read. Of course you will not be allowed to take down notes.

Written Skills - this part will test your writing skills, vocabulary, spelling etc, this will show if you can perform basic police duties like writing reports.

Reading Comprehension test - as the title says this will test your reading ability and your comprehension. Police officers are expected to know how to read and comprehend what they are reading.

Decision making test- now this part will test your ability to make decisions in different situations you will encounter as a police officer. You will really need to study this part of the exam because this part will show the recruiting officer if you do have what it takes.

Directional Test -this will test you capability to read maps and take directions while you are traveling, this skill is very critical for a police officer.

Now if you know some one who has years of experience with recruiting police officers that will be the best, he will be able to give to you first hand knowledge of what to expect and what type of questions will be appearing in the exam. If you have this kind of assistance you will definitely pass you police test.

I wanted to share with you an exam guide for the police officer exam. If you're planning on getting a career in law enforcement than you're going to have to take an exam. The process of being hired for this position is long, tough and full of red tape. Police have extra powers and privileges over other people, so you can see the reason for that. Only a small group of people will pass the exam, so I certainly hope that wakes you up and shows you the amount of urgency that you're going to require. This is why I want to share an exam guide for the police officer exam.

Following orders is an important part of being in the police force. You need to respond exactly as ordered or something serious could go wrong. They try to determine this on the exam in an indirect way. They'll often ask you questions that are worded a little different than you would expect a person to do it. The idea behind it is to see if you're paying attention. While you're in a pressured situation like a test, your mind starts to take short cuts. Instead of reading all the words of a question, it will only read a few and figure out the question on its own. Slow yourself down and read the questions a few times. It will help you out a lot.

This exam guide for the police officer exam wouldn't be complete without an explanation on the meat of the test. You need to show memorization and application of what you memorize. Often questions will ask for the rules and regulations, than for you to apply it to a situation. Try to focus on your studying in the same manner.

I want to provide you with a police examination guide that can help you pass this test. It is estimated that 70% of people will fail this exam and that should scare you. But I think the main reason this happens is that people walk into the exam completely unprepared. They expect certain questions and they exam is totally different, with totally different objectives. Basically, if you don't know what you're going to be asked on the exam then how can you properly study for the exam. That is why I'm going to give you a bit of a police examination guide that will help you with this.

The first thing you need to do is set a certain viewpoint with your study. You're not trying to memorize things, but you're trying to understand application of things. Every situation you face as a police officer is going to be the same and it's going to be different. The rules and regulations will always be the same, but situations and questions will be different. That is how the exam is constructed. They're going to give you a situation and ask what you're going to do in it. They're not concerned about your memorize ancient skills, only your application skills.

The rest of this police examination guide is on your writing skills. You need to be able to write at a very high level police officer because you're expected to write were ports that are viewed by judges and lawyers. Your writing skills will be marked on the exam and they will market hard. Pay a lot of attention to your writing skills while taking the exam.

I'm going to be your police exam study guide. I've been working with all sorts of people to help them get better at passing these types of tests because they're tough. It's not that the questions are necessarily hard, it is just such a different dynamic to what is expected of you. Being a police officer isn't something on paper. It is a very complicated, dangerous and reward experience. The last place a potential police officer is, is in their head. It's hard to go from how to properly do things on the street to how to properly do things on a piece of paper in a hypothetical situation. I'm going to act as your police exam study guide and help you get through this.

What if I told you that the answers to these exams are all pretty much common sense, you'd probably relax. The questions aren't rocket science. You're not asked to build a space ship, you're asked what you should do in various situations and if you're a human being in a normal capacity, you should be able to rely on your common sense. You have to keep the peace, stay in control and not let things get out of hand. It is really that simple.

My best piece of advice to share with you in this police exam study guide is to actually read the questions. I know that sounds trivial, but when you're under the clock your mind will start to try and figure out the question before you finish reading it. This leads to people answering incorrectly, even though they assume they read the question. Make sure you read them.

I wanted to talk to you about how you can achieve a good grade on the police exam. I think the toughest part of the exam is what most people preconceive to be an exam. In high school or college it meant that you were going to be tested on how well you could regurgitate the information you learned over a semester. You had to do a lot of memorizing of useless facts, so you could put them on the exam. That's a measure of aptitude and that isn't the goal of the police exam. Police officers are held to much higher standards because they're given extra powers over people, so that means the exam is designed to really understand you. That's why I'm going to show you how to achieve a good grade on the police exam.

What you need to do is understand is that no amount of memorizing is going to help you. As strange as this might sound, I think you need to really understand the ideology of what makes up police behavior. The best way for the exam to determine if you really understand the material is to ask situational questions and what you'd do in them. A lot of these questions will be things you've never considered before. Without fully understanding the ideology which guides the behavior of an officer, you'll probably get it wrong. Things like keeping the peace, preventing violence, protecting yourself, protecting the public and protecting a persons rights are all weighing on you and you need to find the balance.

Also to achieve a good grade on the police exam you'll need to start spelling properly and using correct grammar. The reason is that police officers right a lot of reports and you need to be able to properly communicate in a written format.

I wanted to give you a little guide to the police exam to help you pass this exam. I think a lot of people underestimate it. I've seen people that would of made relatively good police officers, but failed it because they weren't prepared. Sometimes you'll see people that just aren't good with tests and I can understand that.

You need to have a game plan when you walk into exam. You first have to know what to expect and have an understanding of what the questions are. Nothing is worse that starting an exam to find out that it was completely different than what you expected. I'm going to share with you a guide to the police exam.

The first point that has to be made is that you work on your spelling and grammar. Nothing reflects poorly on a recruit than their writing. Your reports have to be understandable and reflect in a positive way on the force. Make sure you know the common spellings for common police terms.

The second point is that you're going to be asked a lot of situational questions and that is pretty standard. It's the only way to truly demonstrate that you truly understand things. Make sure you can apply regulations on behavior to situations.

This guide to the police exam should conclude on the area of avoiding trick questions. Basically they create a question that tries to get you to put the wrong answer. You have to make sure you read questions a few times, so that you understand. You have to understand the question or you'll get messed up.

I wanted to help with guiding you through the police exam. This is a tough test that you're probably not going to be prepared for. I think the fact that it is called an exam, really just tricks people into what to expect. In high school an exam was a measurement of aptitude. All you really had to do is memorize all the important points and write it down on the exam. In this case, they want to know if you understand and they want to see application of the knowledge, rather than aptitude. So keep that in mind before you go into the exam. I'm going to help by guiding you through the police exam.

I want to make it very imperative to read your questions. I know it sounds like a stupid thing to say, but people really don't read their questions. Our mind has an ability to extrapolate the actually question by picking up on a few keywords. It typically happens when we are stressed during an exam. For the most part this extrapolation works, but a lot of questions can be worded awkwardly to make sure you're listening. Pay attention and make sure you're reading the question. Try reading it twice if that is necessary.

Guiding you through the police exam will require you to understand the application of your knowledge in situations that you've never heard of. You probably know exactly how to pull someone over for speeding, but what do you do in a situation you've never heard of. You have to be able to apply rules and regulations to something you haven't heard of, so make sure you practice.

So you have decided that you want to become a police officer, or maybe you have known it all along but now you have decided to do something about it. Passing the police test is one of the first steps in the hiring process one must take in order to obtain the career of your dreams. Passing the police test isn't exactly rocket science but more people than you would think fail the initial police entrance exam. The following article will dispense some police exam tips for taking the test as well as some tips for the police hiring process.

Having personally passed numerous police tests in the state of California on my first attempt within the last few years, I will give you exam tips and certain study methods as well as a few informative links that I have found very helpful in my police hiring process. This is a quick no BS look at tips that will actually help you achieve your law enforcement goals.

Weeks or even months before the test do lots of reading, it doesn't really matter what you read but try and find something that you actually enjoy reading so that the experience does not become tedious and un-enjoyable. Make sure to check out any study guides that are offered by the police force you are trying to join. Try not to stress too much, stressing out will not help you out in any way. Passing the test will seem more feasible when you don't stress and do a little reading. Being prepared can do wonders for your confidence and score.

Arriving to the test

Map quest your destination and make sure you arrive early, DO NOT BE LATE to your police exam! Upon arrival to your local police written test remember to act professional, and look the part as well. Don't be a loud mouth, curse or be obnoxious, there's always a few of those people. Come in business or semi business attire. I have seen people get turned away and or ridiculed by recruitment officers that were present at the exam.

The test itself

In all the test that I have taken during my hiring process, reading comprehension as well as vocabulary and spelling are main aspects of the exams. Of all the police tests that I have taken in California I have never come across anything more than a basic math section. Basic in the sense that there is no calculus or trig, do study up on fractions and percentages though.

What helped me out on the comprehension end was to actually read the answer choices first, some people read the paragraph first but I found reading the choices before the paragraph really helped. Don't rush these questions, there's plenty of time.

You may think that you are a good speller and that you understand thinks fairly easily but some aspects of the test are things or words that you have not seen or spelled in a while. An example would be words like Lieutenant, warrant, Wednesday and deceased. Pay special attention to a words suffix, whether or not the word ends in ant, or ent. The links provided will explain when to use which. Also, don't rush the test or worry if you see other people finishing before you, this is not a race.

Conclusion

This was a brief overview of some police exam tips. Follow some links to get more tips and info for passing your police exam. I will write more articles in the future about the other steps involved in becoming a police officer, the police hiring process, as well as some interesting experiences I have had with various police departments. Thanks for reading and check back soon!

As the saying goes practice makes perfect right, so the same thing goes to police examinations. If you want to pass as a police office you need to pass the police test before you can proceed with the next step in the recruitment process. So what does this mean? You need to practice taking the police exam before you take the real test. By doing this you will be able to remove all the anxiety involved in taking the exam, you will be relaxed during the test and if you are relaxed that means you can think better.

Another benefit of taking practice exams is that you can determine the phase of the exam, you can easily budget your time for the whole police test and not panic in the last minutes. Now that you are taking practice tests its time for you to know the type of questions that will appear in the police examination. Usually there are multiple type questions, essays, oral test and other methods that the police agency will use. You need to prepare for all these type of questions because you will never know how the exam will be presented.

The below are tips you can use for the written part of the examination.

1. Understand carefully all the instructions that the examiner or proctor gives to you. Remember that they are also grading you on how you take simple orders during the exam.

2. Use all the time provided to you per section to answer all the questions, this is the part where you practice exams pay off.

3. Read the questions very carefully try to understand what the question is asking, but don't get stuck in a specific question for a long time, if you cannot answer it fast enough leave it and comeback to it later.

4. I cannot over emphasize this but if you are taking the exam please do not over analyze the questions. Just understand the question and answer it immediately and follow what you guts tell you.

5. If you have time left and you have finished the test, go back to the questions that gave you a hard time and take a second look at it.

Now these are just basic things you can do to prepare you for the police examination. Remember that the more you practice the easier things will be for you.
