Golf is a game that can incite passions in those who love it. The biggest lament I keep hearing is that people can't play it as often as they like either because they don't have the time or their spouse insists on paying the mortgage. The solution is to find a way that playing golf can pay you no matter what your handicap.

Start a home based business and use golfing as a way to increase your business. The tax breaks alone could pay your green fees and the income you can develop can help you play whenever you want, wherever you want.

There are two tax codes in the US. One is for workers and one is for business owners. The government gives most of the tax breaks to the business owners because they provide most of the jobs, the economy and the wealth in the country. These breaks are so generous that Sandy Botkin, former IRS attorney, in his book, Lower Your Taxes - Big Time!, titled his first chapter, "Why You Would Be Brain Dead Not to Start a Home-Based Business (If You Don't Already Have One)". His second chapter is titled, "How to Deduct Your Fun".

The big difference between the codes is that workers pay taxes first and then expenses while businesses pay expenses first and then taxes. Thus, by legally shifting expenses you normally would incur, or would like to incur, to a business expense, you are paying with before tax dollars and lowering your tax liability at the same time.

The main points to remember is that you have to run the business with an expectation of profit and you must document your expenses. Without the expectation of profit, you risk having it classified as a hobby and you would lose your deductions. The only bar you have to get over is the expectation of profit, not actual profit. In fact, any losses occurred with a home based business can be used to offset other income.

In that second chapter, Sandy Botkin spells out that if you talk business in association with playing golf, half of the expenses are deductible. Creating a business purpose can be as simple as replying, "Business is unbelievable! But, I can never get enough referrals," when asked, "How's it going?"

Obviously, green fees are not the only expenses you can deduct with a home based business. You can hire your kids to do work instead of paying an allowance. If you use photos of your family, your youngest kids can be hired as models with their pay being a business expense. That money can be used to fund their college fund thus making college tuition an indirect business expense.

I am not a tax professional and you will need to talk with your tax professionals to make sure you have everything set up correctly. I'm just relaying what they have told me.

In addition to tax savings, many home based businesses offer residual income. This is income that keeps coming in after the initial work has been done. Some examples of residual income are book royalties for authors, oil wells and movie royalties for movie producers. One author I know is still receiving royalties from a book he wrote 28 years ago.

Another advantage of many home based businesses is called leverage. As you build your business, you can profit from the efforts of other people. If you work every minute in a day, you will have 24 hours worth of effort. If you have a team of 100 people, and each puts in 1 hour per day, you receive the benefit of 100 hours of effort.

Combine residual income with leverage and you have a winning combination for money freedom and the time to enjoy it.

Golf for women, Ladies golf...female golf?

I don't know, it just doesn't sound right. Especially if you're a man, or more to the point, a husband or boyfriend who just got asked the last question he ever in his life wanted to hear. No, it's not when are you going to ask me to marry you, it's, can I play golf with you?

I know of no better punishment for your misbehaving man than to infringe on his time honored tradition of a round of golf. Twenty one million men play at least one round of golf every year. Nearly 80% of them can't break 90.

That means they are pretty bad golfers ladies so they aren't doing it for the satisfaction of playing well. In fact, they can get pretty steamed when the ball isn't rolling right and I've heard tale or two of otherwise civil men tossing their thousand dollar set of clubs in the lake in a fit of rage.

Sad to think they would rather go through that then to spend an afternoon with us, huh?

Now, every once in a while, a man is gifted at birth with certain skills including above average eye hand coordination and can actually get pretty good at this stupid little game. Nothing irritates a better than average golfer more than all those eighty percenters out there hacking up the course and slowing things down, getting him out of his rhythm, or groove. Nothing that is, except perhaps when the little lady wants to tag along and learn how to play golf so they can spend more time together.

I hope you ladies out there realize all this and are outsmarting them at their own game. I would imagine that perhaps there are quite a few of us who have no desire what so ever to go chasing a little white ball around in the hot sun for four or five hours. We simply get pleasure out of seeing our man squirm, giving every excuse in the book as to why we can't join them.

My ex used to tell me that you can't learn out on the course, that it wouldn't be fair to other golfers. I'd stomp my foot and say that if I paid my money just like they did, well they can just hold their britches while I take as many swings as necessary to get the ball in the hole. Man would he get irritated!

I'd force him to take me to the driving range where I would commence to hitting the ball in every direction imaginable...actually broke a car window one time. Once I caught up with my husband I forced him to go back and leave a note on the windshield. That three hundred lesson was not soon forgotten.

Anyway, I like to think that if more women held their men hostage with the threat of wanting to play golf with them, we'd probably have a female president by now.

The only thing I could possibly imagine that would irritate him more is if you were to actually beat him at a round of golf. I had a friend who did just that. She took private lessons and practiced while her husband was at work and then went out and humiliated him to death right there on that sacred ground they call a golf course.

I've actually picked the sport up recently and I have to say, it's not half bad. I wear my little golf skirt and prance around in the most ridiculous manner, but the guy's love it. The one's that don't have their wives or girlfriends tagging along at least.

I read a great book on golf, just for ladies and you can get a copy at my website. There's also a picture of three young studs showing off for the camera that you just HAVE to see. Make sure the husband's not around though, they get all fired up about that kind of thing to! Another story for another day I guess.

Strategy in golf is one of the most overlooked fundamentals of actually PLAYING the game. Most golfers are so concerned about everything else they are (or are not) doing, that they forget to focus on what they should really be thinking about - STRATEGY.

The other five Golf Swing Basics (relaxing, watching the ball, balance and footwork or "setup", proper grip and proper stroke) should be worked on in your practice sessions ONLY. This will reduce the amount of stress and frustration you experience on the course and help you to enjoy the game more.

Strategy is simply planning ahead for each shot that you make. It includes three decisions:

1. The correct point on the course to aim your ball to go towards
2. The correct club to use for the distance you need to hit the ball
3. How long of a swing to take

Your goal should be to maximize your realistic physical capability for that day and minimize the number of strokes needed to finish the hole. Your best strategy, for your own ability level, will many times NOT be the same as someone else.

In order to sharpen your strategy in golf you must take the time to FOCUS on exactly where you want the ball to go. Part of this FOCUS is picturing in your mind the exact PATH and TRAJECTORY the ball will take to get to that target. When you FOCUS like this for each and every shot, you will be amazed how your scores will begin to drop.

Sometimes I think we underestimate what our minds are truly capable of doing. The visual images in our minds set us up to perform physically with the result of achieving our goals without much strain or effort.

Harvey Penick (one of the foremost teachers in golf) always used to say, "Just take Dead Aim". He knew that by just taking time to do this, his students would have much better success and improvement. Some of his more famous students included Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite as well as other famous and well paid professional golfers.

Knowing how far the ball will fly in the air (the "carry" distance) with each club is an important step in having a reliable strategy in golf. The next step is knowing how far the ball will fly in the air with different lengths of swing. Try taking 3/4, 1/2 and even 1/4 length swings with each club. Then write these average distances of flight down for reference while you are playing a round until you can remember them. This will help you to expand your strategy in golf even further. In addition, this will really sharpen your short game around the green (including putting).

PGA golf qualifying school (Q School) could just possibly be the most difficult job application process in the world.

Can you imagine applying for a potentially very high paying job as a golf tournament pro that required you to go through a minimum of three grueling 72 hole qualifying tournaments starting with over one thousand other golfers from fifteen different countries before you make it to the final qualifying stage where you have to compete over another 108 holes with about 120 other golfers for just twenty five available spots on the US PGA tour?

Every year ambitious and highly skilled male and female amateur and professional golfers aged somewhere between eighteen and fifty five test their courage and skills competing to gain a place on one of the lucrative professional golf tours around the world by going through a process just like this.

In this article I'll attempt to give you an idea of just what it would take for you to compete head to head with the stars of the PGA tour or for that matter, the LPGA tour or Champions tour.

LPGA and PGA golf tournament pro's are the product of literally thousands of hours of dedicated practice and competition; but when all is said and done what really matters to them is qualifying to play on one of the pro golfing tours and staying there.

This as you will discover is a lot easier said than done. So here's what you have to do to apply for a golf on tour job.

GOLF ON TOUR JOB DESCRIPTION - PGA TOUR PLAYER

THE PROCESS TO GAIN ADMISSION TO A GOLF ON TOUR POSITION - PGA TOUR PLAYER

To qualify for a Golf On Tour job you will be required to carry out the following four steps:

1. Pre-qualify for the first stage of PGA tour qualifying school with more than one thousand other hopefuls over 72 holes of golf if you have no prior history of competing.

2. If you qualify for the first stage you again play 72 holes to qualify for the second stage of PGA tour qualifying school with golfers from at least 15 countries around the globe.

Learning to play golf has now become the pursuit of both men and women of different ages. Right from the very young golfers to senior citizens as old as 80 years old or even older.
